Energy Price Cap Update October 2025
The energy price cap has been updated for October 2025, and it’s impacting millions of households who may already be struggling.
Ofgem have announced that the annual bill for a typical dual fuel household using the standard amount of energy will rise to £1,755 per year, marking an increase of £35 from the previous cap, set between 1 July to 30 September 2025.
Energy bills are going up again because it now costs more to get gas and electricity to people’s homes. These changes will start in October and last for three months, when a new price cap will be announced.
The good news is that there is significantly more support being provided by the government this year. Anyone on means-tested benefits will automatically receive the £150 Warm Home Discount. Some people missed out on this in the past because of the size of their home, but that rule has now been removed.
There’s also been a U-turn on the Winter Fuel Payment. This year, many more pensioners will qualify, as it’s now being extended to those with a taxable income under £35,000.
