It’s National Apprenticeship week! Lewis joined Green Energy Switch in September 2018, he had just finished his A Levels and was very keen to get into the world of work. Lewis hit the ground running and teaming his apprenticeship with real life work experience was not only beneficial for Lewis but for GES too. After a very successful apprenticeship, Lewis was promoted to Project Support Officer within our Void and EPC Team. He is now getting started on a new qualification (AAT) through GES as he would like to assist within our finance department.

Lewis has written a blog which we hope may help others who are looking into apprenticeships or companies thinking about taking an apprentice on!

“Green Energy Switch (GES) were ever so supportive with my studies of level 3 Business Administration qualification. It consisted of me meeting my tutor once a month for a few hours to go over content of the course as well as developing my portfolio for my interview at the end assessment.

Then in-between, I had time at work and at home to develop my knowledge on the course, complete activities to test my knowledge. GES were able to provide many various jobs that I have done which enabled me to put together a strong portfolio to support my studies. They also allowed me plenty of great opportunities to help grow my personal skills such as meeting and presenting to new customers, suggesting training to strengthen us as a team and even managing my own key accounts of the company.

After this, I was shortlisted for the Final of Peterborough Apprentice of the Year and I nominated my Line Manager Sarah, who was shortlisted for the award of Mentor of the Year.

Now I am a very confident member of the GES team who has even been able to train new members of the team and develop guides and processes inside of the company and plan to further my studies into Account and the AAT qualification to further support the company into financial processes which I am ever so excited to start.

Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills inside a business whilst getting paid, gaining experience and a qualification. I would highly recommend them to people who are not sure and would encourage them to apply for many positions to find a company, qualification and position that they feel is right”
