Key Responsibilities:

Business Development + Sales

  1. Opportunity Identification and Pursuit. Identify and pursue new business opportunities across target markets and sectors to support GES’s overall growth strategy and revenue objectives.
  2. Sales Strategy Development and Execution. Develop and implement effective sales strategies that align with the business goals. Consistently work to exceed growth targets and drive measurable results.
  3. Stakeholder Relationship Management. Build, nurture, and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders to enhance client engagement and retention.
  4. Market and Competitor Intelligence. Conduct ongoing market research and competitor analysis to anticipate industry trends, uncover emerging opportunities, and maintain GES’s competitive edge.
  5. Sales Presentations and Proposals. Prepare and deliver persuasive presentations, tailored proposals, and high-impact pitches to win new business and support commercial success.
  6. End-to-End Sales Cycle Management. Oversee the complete sales process from lead generation to contract negotiation and closure, ensuring a professional and consistent client experience.
  7. Cross-Functional Collaboration. Collaborate closely with Marketing, Key Accounts, and Operations teams to align business development efforts and maximise overall performance.
  8. Industry Networking and Representation. Represent GES at networking events, industry relevant shows, and industry conferences to increase visibility, build connections, and generate new leads.
  9. Develop and Deliver Business Strategy focused on sustainable growth and exceptional customer experience. With measurable targets and milestones, and take full accountability for execution and performance delivery.
  10. Diversify and Expand Client Base in the Energy Sector. Drive GES’s growth in the energy sector by identifying and securing new business opportunities, expanding market presence, and achieving diversification goals in line with the company’s strategic objectives.
  11. Client Acquisition Across All GES Service Areas. Proactively seek and engage with potential clients through both in-person and virtual meetings. Effectively present GES’s full range of services, tailoring solutions to meet individual client needs. Identify relevant business opportunities and independently prepare and complete responses to tenders and formal proposals to support business growth.
  12. Promotion of GES Services. Champion and promote GES’s services to prospective clients through presentations, networking, and strategic marketing initiatives to increase brand visibility and drive engagement.
  13. Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration. Participate in regular cross-functional business meetings to update key stakeholders on progress, share insights, and align on strategic goals.
  14. Achievement of Business Plan Objectives. Consistently meet or exceed personal and company-wide targets as set out in the business plan and appraisals, contributing directly to the success of the wider GES growth strategy.
  15. Service Area Expertise. Develop in-depth knowledge of all GES service offerings to confidently advise, onboard, and support clients, ensuring value alignment and client satisfaction.
  16. Client Relationship Management. Manage existing client relationships to ensure satisfaction, retention, and repeat business. Act as the main point of contact, addressing any concerns swiftly and effectively.
  17. Client Documentation and Compliance. Ensure all client-related documentation, agreements, and communications are maintained accurately and are fully up to date, adhering to internal compliance standards.
  18. CRM Management. Keep the CRM system updated in real-time with all client interactions, opportunities, and sales progress to ensure transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in reporting and follow-ups.
  19. Monthly Reporting and Data Analysis: Deliver comprehensive monthly reports to the Director, including performance data such as pipeline progress, conversion rates, successful sales, and upcoming opportunities. Provide insight-driven recommendations for continued growth.

Person Specification:

Key Requirements and Skills

  • Business Development Management Experience – Proven experience in a business development management role or sales management role (3–5+ years), with a focus on identifying and closing new business opportunities.
  • Commercial Acumen – Strong understanding of commercial dynamics with a demonstrable track record of consistently exceeding sales and revenue targets.
  • Communication & Negotiation Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong negotiation and interpersonal skills to build trust and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-Motivation & Time Management – Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic Thinking & Execution – Combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, showing initiative and drive to deliver tangible results.
  • CRM & Sales Tools Proficiency – Proficient in using CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot), LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and other digital sales tools to manage pipelines and track progress effectively.

Job Details

Employer: Green Energy Switch (GES)

Location: Ham Lane House, Ham Lane, Peterborough, PE2 5UU

Hybrid working: Ability to work on a flexible location basis with generally one visit to the office per week expected. The person will be expected to be travelling nationally throughout the week.

Travel: The role will require travel on a regular basis, nationally. A full UK Driving License required and access to your own vehicle required. Business Insurance also required.

Salary: £40,000 per annum plus £300 per month car allowance

Bonus: Discretionary bonus scheme may apply, based on individual and/or company performance.

Hours/Week: 37 hours

Work outside normal hours: The role involves regular national travel and will require frequent overnight stays away from home. Weekend work may be required on an occasional basis.
