Free Energy Bill Help in Peterborough, South Cambridgeshire and Rutland

Energy bills are still putting a lot of pressure on households across Peterborough, Rutland and South Cambridgeshire, especially since the energy price cap increased by 13% in July. Many people are looking for free support to help make things a little easier, and the good news is that help is available. In fact, you might be surprised by just how much support you could get.

One of the main free services available is LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership), which we deliver in partnership with Peterborough City Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council, and Rutland County Council. LEAP is fully funded via the Warm Homes Initiative and offers home energy support designed to help residents save energy, reduce bills, and access extra support they may not even know is available.

What Happens During a LEAP Home Visit?

Once you apply for LEAP and we’ve checked your eligibility, the LEAP booking team will arrange for one of our friendly Home Energy Advisors to visit your home at a time that works for you.

During the visit, the advisor will have a look around your property, chat through your energy usage, and give personalised advice based on your home and circumstances. They can also install free simple energy-saving measures during the visit, including LED light bulbs, draught-proofing, and radiator reflector panels.

Our advisors can also check whether you’re on the best energy tariff for your needs, help you understand your energy usage, and look at whether switching or fixing your tariff could save you money.

If needed, they can also refer you for additional support, including income maximisation services, larger energy efficiency improvements, and the LEAP Appliance Scheme.

The LEAP Appliance Scheme

The LEAP Appliance Scheme helps eligible residents replace old, inefficient appliances with newer, energy-efficient alternatives. If an appliance is over eight years old, LEAP may be able to replace it free of charge with a newer model that uses less energy. The team can also arrange removal, disposal, and installation to make the process as easy as possible.

Free appliances available through the scheme can include:

• Air fryers
• Fridge freezers
• Undercounter fridges and freezers
• Heated clothes airers
• Heated throws or electric blankets

LEAP Eligibility

You may be eligible for LEAP if:

• You have a low household income (less than £31,000)
• You receive Universal Credit
• You receive Housing Benefit
• You receive an income or disability-related benefit
