Net Zero Week 2025: How You Can Take Part

To kick off Net Zero Week 2025, the UK’s official national awareness week, we wanted to highlight what net zero actually means, why you should care, and what you can do to contribute.

Running from 5th – 11th July, this week is a great opportunity to educate yourself, explore ways to make a difference, and learn about the support and initiatives available to help you on your net zero journey.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of Net Zero Week, and the official platform will host a free to attend, online-only, conference aimed at all the key stakeholders in the net zero transition including businesses, public sector, energy economy and places. If you’d like to get involved more directly, you can find more information on the official page.

But stick with us because below were going to lay out how we can help you, and how some of our services might benefit you (and in most cases, cost you nothing at all!). Whether you’re a business, a landlord, or just someone trying to live more sustainably, we have solutions for everyone.

What Is Net Zero?

Before we dive into solutions, let’s quickly clarify what net zero means.

net zero

The phrase ‘Net Zero’ can get thrown around a lot. To put it simply, it means we are no longer adding to the total amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide and methane.

What Is the UK Doing to Reach Net Zero?

The UK government has committed to reaching net zero by 2050, with Scotland aiming for 2045. A number of policies have been introduced under the Net Zero Strategy (2021) and the Net Zero Growth Plan (2023) to help get us there.

In 2024, the new Labour government announced several new measures as part of its clean energy and climate ambitions, including the launch of Great British Energy.

Some of the UK’s key net zero pledges include:

  • Achieving clean electricity by 2030, by rapidly increasing wind and solar generation
  • Ending the sale of new fully petrol and diesel cars by 2030
  • Installing 600,000 electric heat pumps a year by 2028
  • Investing in technology to capture and store CO2

You can dive deeper into these pledges in our previous blog.

How Green Energy Switch Can Help You Reach Net Zero

Helping Businesses with Green Energy

Through our free business energy switching platform, we offer free quotes to help businesses switch to the best 100% renewable energy tariffs on the market. We compare rates from trusted suppliers and make sure you understand all your options before committing. So far, we’ve helped businesses save over £62,000 combined, while reducing their carbon footprint.

As a bonus, we provide a Green Energy Badge to display online or on-site, so your customers know you’re committed to sustainability.

Fully Funded EV Charger Installations for Businesses

Installing EV chargers is a great way for businesses to cut emissions and support staff, customers, or fleet vehicles. We make it easy with our fully funded EV charger installation service – meaning there is no cost to you. Plus, there’s even potential to generate extra revenue.

We’ve already helped organisations like Bishopton Vets and Peterborough Quakers get set up with EV charging and helping them provide charging for staff, customers, and fleets.

Eligibility depends on your power supply and site layout, but our EV team offers free site visits to guide you every step of the way.

Helping Residents with Home Energy

We deliver the LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership) – a free in-home advice service for people struggling with their energy bills. Our advisors offer energy-saving tips, fit small measures for free, and help access further funding and support.

Last year, we helped over 1,000 households, unlocking more than £800,000 in energy savings and cutting over 200 tonnes of CO₂.

We currently deliver this in Peterborough, Fenland, South Cambridgeshire, and Rutland but it is a nationwide scheme. To qualify, you usually need to be on a low income, receive a means-tested benefit, or have a long-term health condition or disability. If you’re not sure if you’re eligible, get in touch, we’re happy to check for you.

We also offer Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for just £85 + VAT, so if yours has expired or you’re selling/ buying a home, we can sort that too.

Support for Landlords and Housing Providers

We help landlords and housing providers stay compliant and save energy through two key services:

Our award-winning team offers a reliable, professional service that saves you time, money, and effort.

We’re a Profit-For-Purpose Company

As a profit-for-purpose company, all of our profit is gift-aided to PECT, the environmental charity working to make places like Peterborough greener and more sustainable.

That means everything we do – from EV chargers to home visits – helps support community projects like:

When you work with us, you’re not just reducing your carbon footprint – you’re giving back to your community and the planet too.
