Team Away Day 2025: Alton Towers
On Friday 21st March, we had our annual team away day. As voted for by the team, the chosen option was (if you couldn’t already guess from the title)… Alton Towers! It was a day packed with laughter, team building, and, well… lots and lots of screaming!
Why We Do Team Away Days
Our team away days aren’t just about taking a break from emails and spreadsheets, though let’s be honest, that’s a bonus. They’re a chance to reward the team for their hard work over the past year, as well as strengthen bonds and encourage each other on!
This year’s team away day was extra special as we very recently welcomed our new Operations Manager, Kelly, to the team. Now being a team of 17, it was a great opportunity for team GES to spend some time together and get to know each other a little better, or by the end of the last ride a lot better!
A Rollercoaster of Emotions (Literally)
Once we arrived, we headed straight to the other side of the park to ease into things on the classic Runaway Mine Train. If you’ve ever been on it, you’ll know their iconic catchphrase: “Choo Choo!” We must’ve heard that at least 84 times before even getting on the ride, but once we did, it was a great warm up for the big ones ahead.
Feeling brave, we then dared to enter ‘The Curse’, a haunted house filled with lots of surprises. While some of us laughed through it, others found new hiding spots behind their colleagues (or in their own hoodies).
Then came the real tests: Nemesis Reborn and Toxicator. For Nemesis, you’re sat under the track with your legs dangling, because apparently normal seats aren’t terrifying enough. Toxicator, on the other hand, spins you very fast in every possible direction while also twirling the seating platform around. Take it from us, this one is definitely not for the faint of heart… or stomach.

Team GES stopping off for some Pizza and Pasta!
After just about surviving those, we took on Thirteen and Wickerman, which were a both massive hits with the team. These rides combined sudden drops with immersive storytelling, adding a creepy backstory whilst also hurtling us through the air at high speeds!
A Brilliant Day All Around
All in all, it was a fantastic day, and the team absolutely loved it. There were smiles, laughs, and maybe even a few zzz’s on the way home. Riding roller coasters all day is hard work, okay?!
If your workplace is looking for a fun team building day out, Alton Towers is a brilliant choice! Even if thrill rides aren’t your thing, the park has a stunning manor house and gardens to explore which is perfect for those who prefer a calmer experience. Check it out here.
Caught on Camera: The Best Reactions!
Of course, we couldn’t leave without capturing some of the best reaction shots from the rides. From pure terror to eerily calm expressions, we’ve got it all. Check out the video below for some of the best moments!
Here’s What Team GES Thought of the Day!
Our away days are not only a celebration of our achievements throughout the year but also an invaluable opportunity to connect, strengthen relationships, and enhance collaboration. Our trip to Alton Towers exemplified this – filled with laughter, teamwork, and moments of stepping outside our comfort zones while supporting one another. What a fantastic day and an incredible team!
