A Day in the Life of Lewis: Leading the Team and Solving Smart Meter Mysteries

Go behind the scenes with Lewis, one of our senior team members and resident meter expert, as he helps solve meter queries in our award-winning void energy management service.

What does a typical day look like for you?

When I work from home, I love the flexibility of being able to get up later. As I start at 9am, I usually get up around 8:40am to have a quick shower, brush my teeth, and get ready for the day, with an awful habit of skipping breakfast! I love to be social, so I always try to check in with people and they often ask me for help too. I tend to have a few meetings each week, so I will speak to quite a few different team members. Most of the time though, I’m usually very focused on answering emails and getting on with my own projects.

Can you briefly explain what your role involves?

As a senior, I’m responsible for organising the team to ensure all tasks are being completed. This involves checking in with them to make sure they have enough support and then helping out where I can in the joint mailboxes and with my own emails.

I am quite a knowledgeable team member, so I’m often called upon for smart meter help, and I also directly answer RSL queries by email and phone calls.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role?

Getting great feedback for helping RSLs with their challenges.

Can you share a memorable moment or success story with an RSL or resident?

I’d been supporting an RSL with an ongoing meter issue for a few weeks. I managed to escalate the case and get an earlier appointment arranged to replace the faulty meter. When problems continued with the new smart meters, I offered to talk them through the using the meter over the phone. I was able to help get the power back on so they could carry out the final checks and sign up a vulnerable resident.

How does your role support the wider mission of Green Energy Switch?

My role plays a part in helping individuals and communities make more sustainable choices by providing energy efficiency advice to anyone who needs it over the phone and ensuring smooth delivery of our services. By doing my part efficiently and conscientiously, I help Green Energy Switch achieve its mission of making greener living accessible and impactful.

What three words would you use to describe your work?

Purposeful, collaborative, evolving.

What’s always on your desk (or in your work bag)?

A snack to keep the energy up.

Do you have a go-to playlist, snack, or habit that keeps you focused?

Love some digestive biscuits.

What do you like to do in your downtime or lunch breaks?

Go on a walk to stretch the legs and mentally unwind a bit.

How do you unwind after a busy day?

Either by cooking something from the air fryer or completely switching off with a good series, at the moment I am watching Vikings.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about your job?

That it’s as much about people as it is about energy or sustainability. Whether it’s through communication, support, or outreach, human connection is at the heart of what we do.
