A Day in the Life of Sarah: Leading Green Energy Switch With Purpose

Step inside the world of Green Energy Switch’s Director, Sarah, and see how her purposeful leadership helps drive everything we do and deliver the best green energy solutions like our award-winning void energy management service.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are ever quite the same, but that’s what I love about the role. Most days start with a brisk morning walk before my working day starts, this helps me get ready for my day.

Once I’m in work mode, it’s a blend of team catch-ups, strategic planning, and meetings with partners or stakeholders. There’s usually a fair amount of juggling, but I thrive on it.

What time do you usually start your day, and how do you prepare for it?

I go for a walk before work -it’s my way of resetting and getting into a focused mindset. Then it’s a cup of coffee and a quick review of the day’s agenda before diving in.

Can you briefly explain what your role as Director involves?

As a Director, I’m responsible for leading the overall direction and growth of Green Energy Switch. That means overseeing operations, guiding the team, managing relationships with key clients, and making sure our mission and values are always front and centre in everything we do.

How do you keep connected with the team and ensure everyone feels supported and aligned?

Communication is everything. I make a point of being approachable and available, whether it’s through regular team meetings, one-to-ones, or just a chat when we are in the office. I also encourage a collaborative culture where feedback and ideas are genuinely valued.

How do you maintain strong relationships with key clients and partners?

It’s all about consistency, trust, and transparency. I stay in close contact with our partners, making sure we’re aligned on goals and always delivering value.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of leading Green Energy Switch?

For me, the most rewarding part is leading and supporting our team – watching people grow in their roles and careers is incredibly fulfilling. I also take great pride in the fact that our work directly supports our parent charity, PECT. Knowing that our profits go on to make a meaningful impact on the environment gives real purpose to everything we do.

How does your role support the wider mission of Green Energy Switch?

My role is about steering the ship in a way that keeps our mission front and centre. Every decision – from partnerships to internal culture -feeds into our commitment to sustainable, ethical energy practices.

Can you share a memorable moment or success story?

It’s hard to choose just one – there have been so many meaningful moments over the years! If I had to pick, I’d say my proudest achievement is becoming a Director at the age of 29. I joined GES when I was 20 and have worked across a number of roles over the years. To now be leading the business through the most successful period in its history is something I’m incredibly proud of.

Some of our key milestones during this period include:

  • Forming a strategic partnership with a leading energy supplier during an unprecedented energy crisis
  • Becoming the largest third-party voids service provider working with one of Britain’s largest energy suppliers
  • Expanding our client base by growth of 120%
  • Accelerating PECT projects through our growth
  • Growing our additional service areas to support even more partners and communities

It’s been a journey of growth, learning, and real team achievement.

What three words would you use to describe your work?

Purposeful, Quality Lead, Critical decision making.

What’s always on your desk (or in your work bag)?

Always a (big) cup of tea, a (big) glass of water and a notebook filled with ideas, goals, and to-do lists.

Do you have a go-to playlist, snack, or habit that keeps you focused?

I’m a big fan of the AI playlist on Spotify – it blends my favourite music with new discoveries, which keeps things fresh. I usually work with my headphones in, as it helps me zone in and stay fully focused on the task at hand.

What do you like to do in your downtime or lunch breaks?

I may get a second walk of the day in but if not, I will make sure to break away from screens and have my Huel shake and a big cup of tea (again!)

How do you unwind after a busy day?

After dinner, me and my husband will make sure to find something really good to watch on the T.V, usually a series we are into or a film and that will always help me switch off from the day!

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about your job?

Working for a SME as a Director means the role is incredibly varied and I wear multiple hats even in a day! From HR, Line Management, Office Management, Finance Management to planning away days for the team and hanging pictures on the wall in the new office – I love that about the role but my to do list is always incredibly large!

Anything else?

I am a planner and thrive on being organised but there are some days where my plan has to go out of the window – I think my advice to anyone venturing into a similar role would be to embrace those days too and remember a big part of the role is about being adaptable.
