A Day in the Life of Michelle: Balancing Voids, Calls, and Coffee
Step into a day in the life of Michelle, one of our Void Energy Management experts, as she balances energy supplies, RSLs, and coffee.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me as a mum to an energetic little boy starts around 7am or whenever my little one gets up, usual routine is breakfast for the wee one, sort myself and him for the day ahead. With the run up to nursery start time once the wee one is sorted, I get home, grab a coffee, hop on my laptop, greet my colleague’s morning via chat and get down to my first task of the day.
Once 11am hits it’s time for power hour, team email crunch time. After this I likely take the opportunity to clear emails within my daily task folder or other mailboxes. This takes me to lunch, then returning to pick up where I left off. 2pm is the second stage of my daily task.
The afternoon usually consists of processing email but throughout the day I take calls from our RSLs and members of the public looking for assistance. Once a week I attend the office, where the day is mostly the same as working from home expect I usually forget my lunch and take a drive to Tesco on my break.
Can you briefly explain what your role involves?
I’m responsible for sending on any new void property records and updates so that the supplier can process them accordingly. This includes things like new properties, meter readings and tenancy changes. I also process emails, take calls and support with any other tasks that are needed.
How does your role help RSLs/ residents and what makes us so unique?
We’re here to support our RSLs with supply issues, guidance, requests, and admin queries. We also help residents by directing them to the right supplier, supporting applications for LEAP (our free home energy service), and just offering help wherever it’s needed. What makes us unique is that we maintain a friendly and supportive approach to everything we do.
What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the property numbers rise or knowing I have made an RSLs day better by assisting them with an issue.
What three words would you use to describe your work?
Important, supportive and passionate.
What’s always on your desk (or in your work bag)?
Coffee mug, most usually filled with coffee.
What do you like to do in your downtime or lunch breaks?
Chill when I can.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
Get the little one to bed and catch a random documentary.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about your job?
How great our team is.
