A Day in the Life of Zoe: Turning Numbers Into Savings
Discover how Zoe supports the billing side of things for our void energy management service, turning data into savings for housing providers across the UK.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I begin work at 9:30 but I usually start my laptop up about 9:15 to check for updates and get everything loaded in first, making sure there are no updates that could slow me down.
I focus on the billing inbox and notifications first, then check on any other projects I’m involved in and get on with billing reviews.
Can you briefly explain what your role involves?
As I’m billing-focused, my job still revolves a lot around the GES Portal and our relationship with the suppliers system. I talk to RSLs daily and I’m starting to take on more of the face-to-face chats. I have ideas that may help us adapt the Portal going forward. I also perform various statistical analysis on our data alongside the Portal to help gather a picture of how our partners are finding things so we can tailor our approach to each as individuals.
How do you stay in touch with RSLs and ensure they feel supported?
Mostly via e-mail, but I do calls to discuss various void properties and bills they send through. And I am joining more and more Teams meetings to expand my involvement.
What do you think makes a strong relationship with an RSL?
Understanding, patience, support, and respect. Knowing the individual, keeping them involved.
What makes our voids billing process so unique?
We are very thorough. We review the list a minimum of 3 times; before it goes to the RSL, after it’s back from the RSL, and then when it comes back from the supplier as a final invoice.
What’s the most rewarding part of your role?
Seeing those balance values drop when we get the final invoices. We save the RSLs significant amounts of money most of the time.
Can you share a memorable moment or success story with an RSL?
Helping an RSL finish off the final steps of a very long-term meter mix-up.
How does your role support the wider mission of Green Energy Switch?
Making sure RSLs aren’t paying too much for void properties so they can use their money on other things. Billing also is like an audit on how partners use the Portal, so it helps Key Accounts and Voids, too, by notifying RSLs where they are missing information or not following processes.
What three words would you use to describe your work?
Focused, varied, helpful.
What’s always on your desk (or in your work bag)?
I always have at least 8 tabs open on my laptop if that’s what you mean. I also always have a cup of tea and a bottle or 2 of water to hand.
Do you have a go-to playlist, snack, or habit that keeps you focused?
I listen to the radio a lot, but then I have a playlist for when I need to get hyped up. As I work in the kitchen, we won’t mention the snacks (but it’s usually dried mango).
What do you like to do in your downtime or lunch breaks?
I crochet, I dance, and I have 2 kids.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
Crochet, dance/choreograph my own routines, exercise, or gaming. I want to get back into baking again, too.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about your job?
We have helped save our void partners a combined total of over £500k across 9 months of consolidated billing.
Anything else
I’m always happy to go through any questions you have, even if you feel silly asking it. We’re all learning the new billing Portal still, so please don’t be afraid to ask
